Wine Cooler Refrigerator – A Perfect Addition To Any Home Review
Every house comes with certain appliances, and even the most average home owner has certain expectations or wants of their new home. We expect a dishwasher, a washing machine and dryer, a refrigerator and a stove. However, there are luxuries in the world of appliances that some people would also like to have, like a wine cooler refrigerator.
A wine cooler refrigerator is not simply a refrigerator that cools wine instead of food. It also isn’t a wine cellar, meant for aging wine. A wine cooler is meant to hold or store bottles of wine on a temporary basis. It can be built individually for a specific home setting or can be bought from a store to match the fridge and stove one finds in the kitchen.
It is possible to buy a cooler with a split in its temperature zones. Expensive models will have multiple settings that can be set digitally. More economical models will simply have one setting. The top part of a dual zone wine cooler is slightly warmer than its bottom part. Red wine, which is often served at ready to drink temperatures, is best stored on the top shelves of a dual zone cooler. Wines or drinks that are better off being kept cool, like sparkling wines or white wines, find a better home at the bottom of the refrigerator.
Humidity is a big factor when it comes to wine quality and maintain a collector’s personal stock. If a wine cooler refrigerator doesn’t come with a method of humidifying the cooler’s inner atmosphere, there are often other options. The owner of the cooler can fill plastic containers with water and set those on the racks inside the cooler. The water will evaporate and help to return the humidity of the wine cooler to its best state.
Wines can be very expensive, and also very rare. They can be bought as imports from far away countries and the true collector likes to keep their stock safe. A built in security lock on a wine cooler gives a wine collector a good measure of security. Add to that the thickness of double paned windows snugly fit into the doors, and a simple display has also turned into a protective cooler for even the most expensive wines.
The best way to ensure that a wine cooler refrigerator is well maintained is to keep it fully stocked at all times. The engine that powers this kind of cooler or any kind of refrigerator works hard initially to get the contents within to the right temperature. Every time the door is opened, or new space is made by removing a bottle, the cooler has to fire up again and cool that space. If there are full or half full bottles of wine inside, all already chilled to the set temperature, the cooler’s motor can take a break. The bottles will end up chilling each other, and creating a block that keeps the temperature static even if the door is opened often.
Most wine bottles come in what is called a Bordeaux style bottle. A typical wine cooler refrigerator holds this style of bottle alone, and is fifteen inches in width or less. Larger models, likely made for people with varied tastes, can come with what are called universal racks. These racks are capable of holding the huge magnum bottles of wine, as well as the sometimes oddly shaped champagne bottles.
A wine cooler refrigerator can store anywhere from six bottles to upwards of one hundred and fifty. Some people confuse them with wine cellars, they can be so big and varied in shape. The most important thing to remember is to compare price to purpose. These are, after all, for temporary storage and not for actual aging of wines. Make sure your cooler matches your home, your style, your purpose! And keep it full, though emptying it does seem to have a certain charm.
